How to Replace Your Shower Trim Plate.pdf341KB

This guide covers the removal of your old trim and the installation of the replacement plate.

Note: These instructions apply to all Hammerhead Showers trims, even if the model shown in the diagrams differs from your specific unit.

Part 1: Removal Instructions

  1. Loosen the Handles: Start by removing the decorative cover buttons found on the underside of the handles. Then, use the Allen wrench (2) to loosen the handle set screws.

  2. Remove the Handles:

    • Slide the main valve handle (3) off of the square cartridge stem (4).

    • Slide the diverter handle (5) off of the splined cartridge stem (6).

  3. Remove the Plate:

    • Once both handles are removed, pull the escutcheon plate (7) away from the wall.

    • To do this, start by releasing the top edge of the escutcheon, then pull it straight off the two valve bodies.

  4. Clear Debris: If the old rubber gaskets remain stuck to the wall, remove them and set them aside.

Part 2: Installation Instructions

  1. Prepare the New Plate: Confirm that the 2 rubber gaskets are firmly attached to the rear of the new escutcheon (8).

  2. Mount the Plate:

    • Align the escutcheon plate so the smaller hole is positioned at the top.

    • Angle the top edge of the plate toward the wall (9) before pressing it in and onto the two valve bodies.

  3. Reinstall Handles:

    • Slide the diverter handle (10) onto the splined cartridge stem (11).

    • Slide the main valve handle (12) onto the square cartridge stem (13).

  4. Secure the Hardware: Insert the decorative cover buttons (14) into the underside of the handles. Use the Allen wrench (15) to tighten the handle set screws.

  5. Ensure a Seal: Finally, press the escutcheon plate firmly against the wall surface to ensure a snug fit and moisture seal (16).
