What is the difference between the 2-way and 3-way diverter on the HammerHead® 2-Handle Shower Valve?Updated a few seconds ago

The HammerHead® 2-Handle Shower Valve is available with two different built-in diverter configurations. The diverter controls which outlet receives water when the valve is on.

The 2-way diverter switches water between two outlets — one at a time:

  • Diverter pointing up (12 o'clock) → rain / overhead shower head
  • Diverter pointing right (3 o'clock) → hand held

The 3-way diverter does the same, but adds a third position that runs both outlets at the same time:

  • Diverter pointing up (12 o'clock) → rain / overhead shower head
  • Diverter pointing right (3 o'clock) → hand held
  • Diverter pointing left (9 o'clock) → both outlets simultaneously

Which version do I have?

The easiest way to tell is by which product you purchased:

  • The HammerHead® 2-Handle Shower Valve & Trim (sold as a standalone valve and trim kit) comes with the 3-way diverter.
  • The HammerHead® 2-Handle Complete Shower System (the full kit including rain head and hand held) comes with the 2-way diverter.

You can also identify your diverter cartridge by color. The 2-way cartridge is green (model: 2H-VALVE-DIV-REP-2-WAY). The 3-way cartridge is beige (model: 2H-VALVE-DIV-REP-3-WAY). The two are not interchangeable.
